Foundations of Reconciliation: Lessons from South Africa on Memory and Nation-Building
A recent Liberian delegation to South Africa highlighted that nations heal by confronting their past, not forgetting it. Sites like the Apartheid Museum, Nelson Mandela Foundation, and Freedom Park demonstrated how memory connects painful history with reconciliation and nation-building. For Liberia, the lesson is clear: our proposed National Peace and Reconciliation Memorial Museum must be a living institution. By honoring victims and capturing fading testimonies, it will educate a new generation about the cost of our civil war—not to reopen old wounds, but to prevent repeating them. UNDP proudly supports Liberia in this journey, knowing that preserved memory is a vital investment in lasting peace.

Transforming Memory into Lasting Peace: Insights from Rwanda for Liberia's Future
A recent Liberian delegation to Rwanda highlighted that nations heal by confronting their past, not forgetting it. Visits to the Kigali Genocide Memorial and Campaign Against Genocide Museum showed how remembrance preserves truth, educates youth, and cements a commitment to "never again." For Liberia, the lesson is clear: our proposed National Peace and Reconciliation Memorial Museum must be a living institution. By honoring victims and capturing fading testimonies, it will educate a new generation about the cost of our civil war—not to reopen old wounds, but to prevent repeating them. UNDP proudly supports Liberia in this journey, knowing that preserved memory is a vital investment in lasting peace.

Navigating Development in a World of Crisis: Resilience, Equity and Planetary Stewardship
Pleased to open UNDP Liberia High-Level #Development Dialogue on “Navigating Development in a World of Crisis: Resilience, Equity and Planetary Stewardship,” bringing together the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, the Executive Director of the EPA, Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs, National Defense and Gender, the Executive Director of NAYMOTE, the World Bank Chief Economist, and other senior leaders and partners. Great discussion on how we navigate development in a world of overlapping crises. Liberia must move from resilience as endurance to resilience as transformation: investing in people, institutions, economic opportunities and our extraordinary natural capital. The age of development by project must give way to development by transformation. #UNDP #Liberia #SustainableDevelopment #Resilience
